Vini, vidi, viral. “I came, I saw, I went viral.” Here’s what went viral this week, and here’s how ideas go viral.

• The Top Ten Market Research Articles of 2011 – Kathryn Korostoff of Research Rockstar links to and sums up her personal favorite articles from last year. Her five criteria for inclusion provide some great guidance to anyone writing about research.
• New book! The Listen Lady: A novel and social media research guide baked into one – Annie Petit – excuse me, F. Annie Petit, Ph.D. – of Conversition has a new book coming out called The Listen Lady. Some early reviews are in.
• Social Media Research: Keeping it Real – Cathy Harrison of CMB pushes back against the suggestion that SMR will replace traditional MR.
• The Nerd with the Dragon Tattoo – Dana Stanley of Research Access tells us what researchers can learn from that girl with the dragon tattoo (star of story, screen and Sweden).
• Minority Rules: Scientists Discover Tipping Point for the Spread of Ideas – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute researchers have created a number of models demonstrating that when 10% of the population believes “an unshakable belief” a tipping point is reached, prompting majority adoption of their idea. See their paper “Social consensus through the influence of committed minorities”. [Ironically, I read this in July when it was first published but it’s just going viral on #MRX six months later.]
• How research goes viral – MIT economist Scott Stern makes the case that, in life sciences research, new findings become more widespread the easier it is for other researchers to build on them. A key way to achieve this is to distribute the cell lines, microorganisms or DNA through Biological Resource Centers. [Market researchers, want to make your Research On Research go viral?
